Cookies Fix Everything
A cookie to a 2 year old is a tasty tool, to a 6 year old - a treat, a 9 year old - a crime, at 16 - WHATever, but what about us grown ups?
It’s not simply the moment that pleases the tongue (yum), but, the mind (what IS that flavor?), your heart (this tastes like), and maybe even that magic that makes us smile without trying.
Our motto is “Cookies Fix Everything” and that thesis has yet to be disproved. But what we know for sure is cookies create conversations; soften hard ones, sweeten sweet ones. Amazing things happen when we sit with another human, lubricate the conversation with a few cookies and a cup of something welcome. We look each other in the eye, tell the truth a little easier, we listen a little deeper and talk a little slower (cause your mouth is full of a 72cookie obviously...). It’s rare you say something you regret with a cookie in your hand. That’s why we spend time balancing this ingredient with that, debating cereals, tweaking temperatures, time, but always one egg. We don’t spend our days making cookies so they are great, we make cookies in hopes that they will help you have a great moment. And in the end, the moments are all we really have.
"In a lot of ways I think food is starting to take the place in culture that rock and roll took 30 years ago, in that eating has become incredibly political. And just as the street has always dictated fashions on music and other things, it’s starting to happen that way in food."
~ Jonathan Gold
